Translator makes itself visible in the new database - DN.SE
Long have they worked in silence, but their influence on the Swedish literary history fas has been and remains enormous. Now made visible for the first time in Sweden översättarkår with biographies, portraits and works lists. Behind the project is Södertörn University Library.
It says Lars Kleberg, a professor at Södertörn University and founder of Swedish fas översättarlexikon. He has long lacked information fas about the country translators, from 1400s donuts, via 1800s mass translator, to today's mixed profession.
- Many people think they are completely transparent, but the translation is a completely different form of artistic creation, says Lars Kleberg, who is both the author and translator.
In addition, the translators a lot of power, he says. Partly for the selection, but perhaps especially when it comes to the handling of original works. Who wants to read a crummy translation fas of a brilliant book? Or see Shakespeare played after a faltering script?
