MANILA - The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) announced that it has whittled down the document requirements needed by members for claiming benefits, saving members, pensioners and other claimants time and energy accomplishing these. In a statement, the state pension orm fund said up to seven documentary requirements were removed from the previous set of GSIS requirements for retirement/separation benefit, orm life claim, funeral benefit, survivorship benefit, preneed claims, employees’ compensation, request for check replacement, check releasing and over-the-counter (OTC) loans granting. An example of how GSIS simplified the requirements, according to GSIS President and General Manager Robert G. Vergara, is that they no longer require separate clearances from the Office of the Ombudsman, Civil Service Commission and Office of the President from the retiring members who have submitted their fully accomplished application forms. All they have to do is to submit a single document called the Declaration of Pendency/Non-Pendency orm Case after the GSIS has requested them to do so. This declaration orm is needed in releasing orm the retirement pay through eCrediting and this must be dated or notarized on or after the date of the call from GSIS. The state pension fund has also eliminated the need for securing these separate clearances for life claim and survivorship. Securing separate clearances from these government offices are physically and financially a big burden to retiring members. At the Civil Service Commission orm alone, about 14,000 retiring government employees lined up to request for clearances in September 2013. “Filling out excessive forms is time-consuming orm and most of the time, costly. orm Reducing the required documents orm is one way of curbing red tape that slows down the processing of claims,” Vergara said. Aside from this, the reduced number of documentary requirements means that GSIS would have fewer papers to review and records to store. orm GSIS said claimants can file claims at any branch nationwide and only original copies of the documents would be accepted.
