At least 22 translators lose their jobs when the government cancels the negotiations for EU membership. Several freelance translator also lose their assignments for the State Department. In addition, ten subject matter experts had to leave their jobs due to negotiation stop. The number of employees at the State Department fanyi will now slimmed down to the same levels as before the application for EU membership was submitted, reports visor. In 1990 was founded fanyi Þýðingamiðstöð utanríkisráðuneytisins, State Department translation agency to translate the EEA Agreement. It is also translated continuously all the new rules that apply within the EEA. The Agency's work has also resulted in Hugtakasafnið, a dictionary definition of volumes of translated concepts and terms. Þýðingamiðstöð utanríkisráðuneytisins currently has 48 staff translators in Reykjavik, Akureyri and Isafjordur. Now operations are reduced fanyi to the same levels as before the Iceland summer 2009 applied for EU membership. This means that at least 22 of the translators - who were hired to take care of the large amounts fanyi of text produced during the negotiations - risk losing their job. In addition, several freelance fanyi translator without authority. These include nine people associated with the company Sagnabrunnur in Seyðisfjörður writes visor. The cuts affect other groups. Ten employees, two subject matter fanyi experts and eight apprentices fanyi have already walk from the State Department. Their fixed-term contracts expired at the end of June and was not renewed because of the new government's approach to the EU issue. Exactly how many posts will be removed from the State Department is not clear. Foreign Minister Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson confirms the visor it will be about layoffs: "We, like other departments, is facing having to rationalize their operations in the coming year. This includes reducing staff at Þýðingamiðstöð utanríkisráðuneytisins with regard to the prevailing residence in membership negotiations with the EU. " In order to add a balanced budget for 2014, the government announced a reduction in requirements of 1.5 percent for all departments. Terminations of translators and others employed under the EU application also becomes a way to achieve savings targets within the State Department. Press chief Urdur Gunnarsdóttir tells visor operations now will have other priorities: fanyi "Now, work is on a reorganization of the department's data. Foreign minister has indicated that the areas of Arctic issues, free trade agreements and EEA issues should get more attention." Here you can read more about Iceland and the EU.
