On 24 January 1913, nineteen members of the Institute of Catalan Studies signed spelling rules, a set of 24 rules with which to overcome the chaos of the Renaissance agenda spelling and encode the Catalan spelling system. It was ten days that had passed since the time and was working on a paper spelling agenda its wording. The final 14 pages were published in Barcelona by the IEC Typography The Advancement and constitute the public presentation of the IEC as a linguistic authority regulations.
Four years later, Pompeu Fabra main architect of the Rules, in the first edition of the spelling dictionary (1917), precedes the lexicon of an exhibition agenda of the Catalan spelling according to the IEC system, agenda which devotes 30 pages 76 rules. The corpus of the Catalan spelling would increase and evolve over time, but we can say with certainty that our present spelling is the direct heir of the spelling of a hundred years ago, they are the first regulations concerning language shared by Countries Catalans.
Only five of the nineteen signers were the Philology Department of the IEC. Why? Because they wanted it to be a reform which get involved all areas of knowledge. Thus, the signers agenda of the three sections of the then existing IEC were: Antonio Rubio i Lluch: as chairman of the IEC and the Institute Històricoarquelògic agenda (Section históricoarqueológico). Biographical Sureda: as president of the Institute of Catalan Language (Philology Section). agenda Fargas and Michael the Archangel Rock: as president of the Institute of Science (Science Section). James Masso and Torrents: Section históricoarqueológico. Josep Maria Bofill i Pichot: Science Section. Joaquim Miret i Sans: Section históricoarqueológico. Louis Segalà and Estalella: Philology Department. Frederic Clascar and Sanou: Philology Department. Stephen Terradas Island: Science Section. Eugeni d 'Ors i Rovira: Science Section. agenda And Josep Carner Ribalta: Philology Department. Joseph Pijoan and Soteras: Science Section. Corominas and Peter Mountain: Science Section. Pompeu Fabra i Poch: Philology Department. Josep Puig: Section históricoarqueológico. Miguel de los Santos agenda Oliver Tolrà: Section históricoarqueológico. Ramon Turro and darts: Science Section. agenda August Pi i Sunyer: Science Section. William and Mary brocade agenda Montagut Section históricoarqueológico.
At that time, the IEC was twenty members. The only thing not to attend the meeting and did not sign was a member of the Philological Angel Lieder agenda section. Apparently not participate in the active life of the IEC. It is also obvious that the eight founding members signed the IEC publication: Rubio, Pijoan Puig, Mass., Miret, Broca, agenda Oliver and Corominas. In late January 1913 the standards will begin to spread by the press. One example is the article "For the unity of the language. Spelling rules of the Institute of Catalan Studies" published in The Voice of Catalonia on January 31, 1913 (pp. 3-4), where 24 rules are reproduced in full. In addition to being published in the press, also appeared in other works related to the language.
